How To Maintain Resin Bound Driveway – A Guide

Installing a resin bound driveway to your property is a great way to transform the appearance of your home’s exterior with an attractive and smooth surface. In this article, we will cover how you should maintain your resin bound driveway, to ensure your resin bound surfacing stays looking brand new and perfect for many years to come.

What Is A Resin Bound Driveway?

Firstly, resin bound driveway surfacing is a high-quality, versatile and attractive alternative to traditional tarmac driveways or block-paved driveways. Resin bound driveways are created using a stone-aggregate and resin mixture, this is then applied to your prepared driveway and set.

The stone aggregate and resin can be chosen to suit your needs and requirements and can vary in size and colour, depending on preferences and requirements. At iDream Solutions, we only use high-quality aggregate and resin to ensure a durable and attractive finish – which will last for many years.

Immediate Resin Bound Driveway Aftercare

Once our iDream Solutions team has installed your resin bound driveway surfacing, several steps can be taken, to ensure its long-life and attractive appearance.

Our resin driveways Devon , are manufactured using UV-stable polyurethane resin. The polyurethanes in the resin are highly resistant to chemicals, however, in the first few days, care should be taken to not expose the drying resin to chemicals, as this can affect the integrity of the driveway and affect its many beneficial properties, including; UV resistance, chemical resistance and durability.

Continuous Resin Bound Driveway Care

Even with its low-maintenance properties, resin driveways do benefit from occasional maintenance, which can be straightforward to stay on top of. As the weather cools and autumn and winter set in, it is important to ensure your driveway is properly cared for, as the wetter and colder days and nights can cause small issues for your driveway.

Cleaning Your Resin Bound Driveway

We recommend cleaning your resin bound driveway periodically. Start by sweeping your driveway – to remove any leaves or debris. Once your driveway is clear, we recommend using a pressure washer with a flat nozzle 20cm or so from the surface of your driveway.

Doing this regularly will help prevent the build-up of dirt and grit on your resin-bound driveway, keeping your resins shine and colours bright and clear. Thanks to the resin’s permeable surface, any water used to clean your driveway will drain away. Please note, if you don’t remove leaves or debris, stains may occur on your driveway from the plant debris.

Clearing Weeds

When installed, your resin-bound driveway will have a weed-resistant membrane beneath the surface. However, some persistent weeds may still be able to make their way up to the surface. Some weeds can easily be removed by hand, without damaging the surface of your driveway.

Larger or more robust weeds can be deeper rooted and could cause damage to your resin if removed. In these cases, you can either continually remove the weeds from the surface level or treat the weeds with weed killer by pouring it onto the surface and allowing it to soak through to the root of the weed. If you’re using weed killer, make sure to water it down to reduce the risk of staining.

Moss Removal

Moss may form on your resin bound driveway surfacing, especially in areas not exposed to sunlight. Moss can be easily removed, with a stiff broom or a pressure washer. It is imperative to remove moss when you see it, as this can cause your driveway to become increasingly slippery.

Snow & Ice Build Up

As it gets colder, the risk of ice on your Devon driveway increases. Scattering salt onto your driveway can help prevent the build-up of ice, keeping your driveway slip-free and safe for pedestrians and vehicles.
