Driveway Maintenance FAQs – Find Your Answer!

Driveway maintenance is important in keeping your new driveway surface as pristine as possible for years to come. Whether you have invested in new resin bound surfacing , tarmac driveway or block paved driveway, our driveway maintenance FAQ guide will help you to understand a little more about the materials and how to keep it looking tip-top all year round.

Block Driveway Maintenance

Block paved driveways can be a huge investment for homeowners looking for a traditional style driveway and that’s why taking care of it regularly will ensure it lasts for years to come.

  • Can I pressure wash block paved driveway?

We would recommend against using a pressure washer for block paving as, if used regularly, this can degenerate the concrete/cement used for the pointing between each brick, eventually loosening the brick overtime. Instead, we’d recommend using a hard bristle brush or yard brush, alongside some warm soapy water, to get rid of any dirt or material on the surface.

  • How do I get rid of weeds and grass in between the block paving?

In the situation where weeds or grass start to show in between the bricks, you will want to remove them with weed killer where necessary. This will then kill the root and prevent it from growing, rather than just picking the top of the weed.

  • How often should I sweep my block paved driveway?

We suggest using your yard brush every week to clear any small pieces of dirt or material from the surface. This will make the deep clean of your block paved driveway a lot easier, as there won’t be a great build up of dirt over time.

Tarmac Driveway Maintenance

Tarmac driveways can look stylish and sophisticated but, if not regularly maintained, can diminish its look and practicality.

  • How often should I clean my tarmac driveway?

Ideally, you want to brush any debris or dirt from the surface every week and use a hose to rinse off any built-up dirt. Try not to over sweep the surface as this can weaken the material and may cause cracks overtime.

  • Do I need to seal the driveway again in the future?

Your new tarmac driveway shouldn’t need another sealing unless any repairs are made in the future.

  • How do I prevent mould on my tarmac driveway?

Unfortunately, mould build-up can occur when you don’t keep up the maintenance of your tarmac driveway. To prevent this occurring though, brush away the top layer of moss first and then use your chosen moss killer (as per the instructions). You may need to do this once or twice a year, depending on the climate – some locations and environments can be more damp than others etc.

  • What should I do if I spill liquid such as oil on the tarmac surface?

Remove any liquid or spillages such as oil straight away with an absorbent towel – do make sure it is completely clear of the spillage before attempting to clean as you don’t want any residue left on the surface. Try using sawdust or sand to soak up any oily substances.

You can then use water as you would normally to clean the surface. We would recommend using a pressure washer to do so on a low setting to prevent any damage occurring.

Resin Bound Driveways

Driveway maintenance is important in keeping your new driveway surface as pristine as possible for years to come. Whether you have invested in new resin bound surfacing , tarmac driveway or block paved driveway, our driveway maintenance FAQ guide will help you to understand a little more about the materials and how to keep it looking tip-top all year round.

With resin bound surfacing increasing in popularity due to the weather-resistant material and range of colours available, you’ll want to make sure it looks great all year round.

  • How do I clean my resin stone driveway?

As with any driveway surface, brushing away the top surface debris and dirt with a hard bristle brush will give you a good starting base to wash away any ingrained dirt.

  • How do I get rid of stubborn stains?

We’d recommend trying a combination of a yard brush and soapy water first to see if that removes the stains or dirt. If that doesn’t seem to work, try using a pressure washer on a low setting to see if that helps.

  • I have tyre marks on my resin drive, what should I do?

Firstly, to prevent creating tyre marks on your resin drive, eliminate any chance of ‘dry turning’ whilst using your car (steering the wheel whilst stationary). Over time, not only can this cause further stains, but also damage the top layer of the resin and may need repairing further down the line.

If for any reason you have tyre marks on the resin surface, using a cloth and white spirit, wipe down and wash with an emulsifier in the specific area.

  • How do I remove oil and fuel spillages on resin stone?

Brake fluids can be highly corrosive to resin bound and will jeopardise the safety and effectiveness of the surface. If you spill any oil or fluids, be sure to soak it up with an absorbent towel, or like we have suggested above, use sawdust or sand. Then you can wash the surface with water to eliminate any further damage.
